The Gauteng branch of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has announced its strong support for Julius Malema to serve a third term as party president. This decision was made ahead of the EFF's third National People's Assembly, currently being held at the Nasrec Expo Centre in Johannesburg. The assembly will also elect the party's new leadership slate for the next five years.
Nkululeko Dunga, Gauteng EFF Chairperson, confirmed that the provincial general assembly resolved to back Malema's re-election. The proposed leadership slate includes Malema as president, former secretary-general Godrich Gardee as deputy president, and other new appointees in key positions. The conference will also consider structural reforms, including proposals to unify youth and student branches under one structure to strengthen the party’s organizational reach. Malema, during the preparations, expressed gratitude for the discipline and maturity shown by EFF members, emphasizing that the assembly will review the party's past performance and adopt a new program of action.
Discussions also include constitutional amendments and strategies to further the EFF's core mission of economic transformation. The announcement of the new leadership is expected shortly as the conference concludes.
