John Hlophe, Deputy President of the Umkhonto Wesizwe Party, continues to suffer setbacks in Johannesburg. His appointment as a member of the Judicial Service Commission by the National Assembly was deemed invalid and unconstitutional by the Western Cape High Court. The MK Party and Hlophe's application to challenge the interim interdict that prevents him from serving on the JSC was denied by the Constitutional Court last month.
Following a court case brought by Freedom Under Law, Corruption Watch, and the Democratic Alliance, Hlophe was removed from JSC procedures. Hlophe was impeached for trying to sway Constitutional Court Justices Chris Jafta and Bess Nkabinde, to rule in favour of former President Jacob Zuma in the arms deal case.
