Advocate Thulani Mngomezulu, one of the defense lawyers in the ongoing Senzo Meyiwa murder trial, passed away on December 10, 2024, at Thelle Moroerane Hospital in Vosloorus after battling illness. He was representing Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, accused number one in the trial. Mngomezulu joined the high-profile case in October 2023 and was instrumental in cross-examinations during the proceedings.

Before his death, Mngomezulu had raised concerns about his safety, reporting an incident where unknown individuals tried to enter his property. He believed the threats were connected to his role in the trial. This highlighted the high stakes and tensions surrounding the case. The trial, which investigates the 2014 shooting of South African soccer star Senzo Meyiwa at Kelly Khumalo's home, has faced numerous delays. Mngomezulu's death is expected to further delay proceedings as Sibiya must secure new legal representation. This development adds complexity to a case already burdened by controversies, conflicting testimonies, and questions about evidence.
