South African President Cyril Ramaphosa recently announced significant changes to visa processes for Nigerians, unveiled during the 11th Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission (BNC) in Cape Town, co-chaired with Nigerian President Bola Tinubu. The reforms aim to enhance bilateral ties and simplify travel, particularly for businesspeople and tourists. Among the measures, Nigerian businesspeople who meet certain criteria will now be eligible for five-year multiple-entry visas.

Additionally, Nigerian tourists can apply for visas without submitting physical passports. This development reflects South Africa's efforts to create a favorable environment for investment and strengthen economic collaboration with Nigeria. Ramaphosa emphasized the importance of removing investment barriers and addressing challenges faced by businesses from both countries. He also highlighted Nigeria's role as a key partner, with numerous South African companies operating there, and called for increased Nigerian investment in South Africa. The BNC, established in 1999, serves as a platform to strengthen diplomatic, economic, and cultural ties.

This year's session, which marked 25 years of the Commission, included discussions across eight areas of cooperation, such as trade, migration, and security. Several agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed to further enhance collaboration. .
