Dali Mpofu, the former national chairperson of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), has left the party to join the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Liberation War Veterans Party, associated with former South African President Jacob Zuma. This shift is part of a trend, as other prominent EFF figures, including Floyd Shivambu and Busisiwe Mkhwebane, have also recently joined the MK party.

Mpofu’s move comes as he has already been involved in various legal matters for Zuma, symbolizing a deepening alignment between his political and professional loyalties. The shift has triggered strong reactions within the EFF, with leader Julius Malema responding by reassigning roles and emphasizing that the EFF would not "beg anyone to stay." Malema has expressed concerns over factionalism and opportunism within the party, especially with its upcoming December leadership elections, suggesting that those seeking "greener pastures" should depart now rather than later.

Dali Mpofu’s recent shift to the uMkhonto weSizwe Liberation War Veterans (MK) Party, established with former president Jacob Zuma's endorsement, has stirred South African politics. Mpofu, who resigned from the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), joined MK as a senior legal advisor and spokesperson. He cited dissatisfaction with the current direction of mainstream parties, describing the MK as a voice for "true liberation." This change also intensified legal battles between the MK and the ANC. The ANC challenged MK’s registration with the Electoral Commission, alleging that the process was flawed, and raised concerns over potential voter confusion due to MK’s use of the historically significant "uMkhonto weSizwe" name.

Mpofu and MK argued that the ANC’s objection was politically motivated, coming only after Zuma publicly supported MK. Legal hearings in the Durban High Court have since seen fierce arguments over trademark rights and the potential impact on the ANC’s brand in future elections.
