Busisiwe Mkhwebane’s resignation from the EFF and politics marks the end of a turbulent chapter in her career. Initially, she joined the EFF in October 2023 following her impeachment as Public Protector, where she faced numerous controversies, including rulings on high-profile cases like the Reserve Bank's mandate, President Cyril Ramaphosa's CR17 campaign, and the Phala Phala scandal.
These cases led to significant political backlash, and Mkhwebane believes they contributed to her eventual impeachment. In her resignation, Mkhwebane expressed deep disappointment with the executive, judiciary, and Parliament, stating that she felt betrayed by these institutions, especially during her impeachment process. She described her tenure as a time when she faced personal and professional attacks, including threats to her family and alleged attempts on her life. Additionally, her resignation comes shortly after losing a legal battle over a R10 million "golden handshake," which was denied by the High Court.
She mentioned that she now plans to focus on family and possibly continue advocating for vulnerable groups, particularly Black professionals, whom she believes are often persecuted.
