Lindi Nhaca, the former mayor of KwaDukuza Local Municipality, faced disciplinary actions from the ANC in KwaZulu-Natal due to several allegations of defying party directives. Initially, she was recalled as mayor in early September 2024, with the ANC citing her inability to align with party strategies and objectives as one of the main reasons. The party accused her of misconduct and behavior that could compromise the unity within the organization.
Nhaca’s public defiance of the ANC’s decisions, including vocal criticisms after her recall, further intensified the situation. As a result, she was suspended from the ANC entirely on September 28, 2024. Her suspension means that she is barred from attending ANC meetings, including those in her municipality, and she is no longer allowed to represent the party in any official capacity. This disciplinary action comes as part of the ANC's broader efforts to restructure and strengthen its leadership at various levels of government.
The party emphasized that members must prioritize collective objectives over personal interests, and any deviation from this undermines both leadership integrity and party unity.
