ActionSA has sent an urgent letter to the Department of Home Affairs seeking clarification on how Chidimma Adetshina's mother traveled to Nigeria. Chidimma, crowned Miss Universe Nigeria on Saturday, August 31, was accompanied on stage by her mother, who is under investigation for potential fraud and identity theft. This follows controversy surrounding Chidimma's South African citizenship during her Miss South Africa 2024 campaign.
An investigation by Home Affairs uncovered prima facie evidence suggesting the South African ID used to register Chidimma at birth was allegedly stolen from a South African mother. Further evidence indicated that Adetshina’s mother may have committed fraud, as the ID in question was reportedly stolen from a South African citizen. In a recent update on Adetshina’s citizenship investigation, the Department revealed it has been tracing Home Affairs officials who might have been involved in the alleged fraud. One official has passed away, and two others are currently under investigation.
The Department has issued a letter to Chidimma Adetshina’s mother, requesting an explanation on how she obtained the South African ID used to register her daughter.
