In protest of the proposed VAT increase, members of the uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK Party) in Gauteng will march to the offices of the National Treasury. The march comes after Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana postponed the National Budget Speech last month. Due to disagreements within the Government of the National Unity (GNU), some GNU parties rejected Godogwana's plan to raise VAT by 2%, the announcement was delayed.

Godongwana is scheduled to present the revised Budget Speech on Wednesday in Cape Town. Members of the MK Party will be protesting at the National Treasury offices against the proposed VAT increase. As a result, Church Square and the streets of Pretoria are anticipated to be painted green, black, and yellow. The MK Party of Jacob Zuma stated that the march aims to draw attention to the detrimental effects of the VAT increase on low-income households and small businesses.

Additionally, the party emphasized that the march will focus on issues such as the need for a more equitable tax system, the regressive nature of VAT, its disproportionate impact on the poor, and the difficulties VAT presents for entrepreneurs and small businesses. Additionally, the MK Party will demonstrate against the Ithala Bank's liquidation. This comes after the Prudential Authority (PA) asked the Pietermaritzburg High Court to temporarily liquidate the state-owned bank of the provincial government. In the past, the party had started a campaign to stop the bank from going bankrupt. In addition to the other initiatives announced by a number of concerned organizations, including Zulu King Misuzulu, MKP's effort to save Ithala was unique.
