The South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) in KwaZulu-Natal has distanced itself from the African National Congress (ANC), citing ongoing concerns with the ANC’s leadership. This separation marks a significant shift in SANCO’s traditionally strong alliance with the ANC. SANCO leaders have expressed dissatisfaction with the ANC's leadership in the province, especially due to the party’s challenges and loss of members.

SANCO’s KZN secretary, Mazwe Cele, publicly criticized the ANC, asserting that the party’s leadership has failed to address key issues and that it should be held accountable for the increasing number of defections to other parties, such as the EFF. This development follows earlier tensions, including SANCO's decision to expel former President Jacob Zuma as its KZN chairperson, further highlighting internal discord. Zuma's support for the newly formed Umkhonto we Sizwe (MK) Liberation Party also clashed with SANCO’s continued endorsement of the ANC, which SANCO reaffirmed for the upcoming 2024 elections.
